Ko wai ahau
The Taputapu team is Nikki Kennedy and Taylor Pahuru, two wahine Māori from Te Tairawhiti but now living and working in Hamilton. We are passionate about elevating businesses through good design with our style best described as modern, Māori and clean.
Taputapu was founded in November 2015 by Nikki Kennedy with the aim of helping whānau create a Māori environment within the whare.
As a second language learner in Te Reo Māori Nikki knew the struggles of trying to learn Te Reo Māori outside of the classroom. The solution – to create homeware products that would help with her own learning and also teach others. With the first products created Taputapu was born.
Fast forward several years, a degree in Media and Creative Technologies, a masters in Computer Graphic Design and the creative addition of Taylor Pahuru on board Taputapu has grown to include graphic design services. Our aim is to preserve and teach Te Reo Māori through our products and to create authentic Māori design that best reflects our people, culture and language.
